Sometimes your photos are not well exposed because of lighting issue. Or sometimes it turns out that the colors on the image are not as good as what you expected. Well, you only need Levels, Saturation, and Vibrance as the very steps to instantly correct your image. 

Levels control lights and darks. Saturation controls colors globally. Vibrance enhances colors that are relatively dull and not saturated. And those are the 3 simple elements in this video of Correcting Image 101.
